about

'Little Feet' is the first song to be shared by The Silver Reserve (on 13.11.15), taken from their eponymous album which is the result of short, intensive recording sessions, spread over a period of three years.

The song's lyrical content was a response Yorkshire-based songwriter Matthew Sturgess's inability to recall family moments, even milestones, in any sort of close detail after becoming a parent. The fallibility of memory is a recurring theme on 'The Silver Reserve', an album which touches on many musical genres but could loosely be tagged as 'alternative existential folk music'.

lyrics

A memory like the English summer sun,
It’s always past; won’t last too long,
A hazy warmth if you get some,
Then a shadow’s cast and it’s gone.

Now it’s cold out, though I recall the sun’s glow, it’s cold outside.
Though it’s cold out, the feeling has gone, it just goes, it’s cold ouside.
So, soft light, can I keep a flicker of this life,
Let me hold on to moments I don’t think I’ll ever remember right.

Though it’s cold out, the feeling has gone, it just goes, it’s cold ouside.
So, lost life, can I keep a flicker of this light,
Remembered in half; flawed and slight, I can never hold on tight.

Can’t get back to the year of the cow,
Live in the moment, live for the now,
Well what else can I do? I’m stuck here anyhow,

Now it’s cold out though I recall the sun’s glow it’s cold outside.
So, soft light, can I keep a flicker of this life,
Let me hold on to moments I don’t think I’ll ever remember right.

Can’t dwell on things I can’t keep, walk on little feet.
Can’t dwell on things I can’t keep, walk on little feet.
Happy hello means sad goodbye.
Can’t dwell on things I can’t keep, walk on little feet.
From lullabies to coffin flies.
Can’t dwell on things I can’t keep, walk on little feet.

Walk on little feet under the sun,
A camera lifts the moment’s gone,
My memory may not be strong,
Though I’ll enjoy remembering it wrong.
